Bodied/Unbodied

My initial research involved looking into tailored, draped, and deconstructed garments and installations. I then began to drape on my own body, exploring various fabrics, textures, fits, and colors. Through the exploration process, I discovered one of my favorite silhouettes by placing two garments together to create a sleek looking “V” neckline. I experimented with turning my fitted jacket upside down and putting it on the front of my body to create an interesting neckline that gathered and bunched on the chest. I discovered that I felt confident in the drapes and ensembles that were more fitted to my body. I was also attracted to the bias drape that crosses the body and bunches together. My final five looks contain a neutral color palette of blacks, whites, and nudes. There is a pop of pink in one of the tops that I think beautifully contrasts the black mini skirt in the same look. Some themes that show up in my final garments are fit and non-fit, distortion, positive and negative spaces, gathering, and fragility.
