Magnetically Spiked Chest Piece

Plaster molded chest piece covered in “spikes” comprised of a resin and iron filings mixture. Their shape was created by placing magnets underneath the mixture and allowing the organic shape to cure in resin. The piece consists of 57 individual and unique “spikes”. 

The piece is inspired by the screenwriting and directing of Charlie Kaufman. Kaufman’s work is inundated with themes of mortality, identity, and absurdity. He places ordinary people within curated, surrealist spaces, forcing the viewer to identity with the characters and their stories.
