Amebiasis

Sewn Garments and Collection

Using a chemical mixture, I expedited the rust process of metal objects and extracted the pigment to use as dye within my garments. I then combined the rust with my wet felting technique from the last collection to create a link between the feelings of loneliness and discomfort. Corset top is fully rusted and the taffeta skirt is layered with a rust chiffon.

Through the exploration of cardiovascular surgery and out-dated medical care, this collection aims at capturing the feelings of compression and then dilation associated with both the emotional and physical side effects of existing in a medical space. Elements of constraint and limitation are combined with opposing manifestations of enlargement and swelling. The tension between these themes is synonymous with the amplified loss of control and heightened discomfort that humans experience in hospital settings.
